Learn To Skate

Learn to Skate is a weekly program that teaches kids the basics of skating. We aim to get them comfortable on the ice, so they can enjoy everything that skating has to offer!

Ages

The program is ideal for kids aged 4-7, but we welcome skaters 3 and up.

WHERE

Practices are held at the Hoyt Lakes Arena.

When

Practices will be held on Monday evenings around 5:30. *Time is subject to change slightly depending on other practices, but will be consistent throughout the season.

We will begin on November 11th and continue through the end of February.

What to Expect

Practices will be 30 minutes at the beginning of the season. We will move into 45 minute sessions in January when they build stamina and ability.

We will incorporate games into learning the skills to keep the kids engaged. We also try to keep the routine consistent, so the kids know what to do.

Equipment

All skaters must wear a helmet. This could be a bike helmet, ski helmet, or a hockey helmet.

You are responsible for providing skates for your child. There are local places that rent skates for the season which can be a good option.

We also recommend winter gear like coats, snowpants and gloves as it gives them a little extra padding.

Registration Fees

$60 of the registration fee is for the City of Hoyt Lakes recreation fee which covers ice time. The remaining fee goes to cover coaches and equipment used for learn to skate.
