Mesabi East Youth Hockey
The Mesabi East Youth Hockey Association (MEYHA) takes pride in the opportunity to provide our area youth with the ability to participate in Minnesota's most historical sport. Here, players learn the fundamentals for hockey as well as life long lessons of teamwork, good sportsmanship, respect for authority and self-discipline all while staying physically fit. Parents and players enjoy the quality time spent with their families and the life long friendships that are formed!
Ages
Termites: New skaters that want to progress into playing hockey. Born on or after June 1, 2019.
Mini-Mites: Typically kindergarten or first graders that are born between June 1, 2017 and May 31, 2019. *Players that are 4 years old can register, but they must have at least 1 year of learn to skate or hockey prior.
Mites: Typically second or third graders that are born between June 1, 2015 and May 31, 2017.
Squirts: Typically fourth or fifth graders born between June 1, 2013 and May 31, 2015.
*Age classifications can be adjusted if needed by discussing with the board.
Registration Fees
Registration fees go toward the cost of ice time for practices, games, and tournaments, referees for home games and tournaments, a jersey or jerseys to use for the season. $60 of the registration fee is for the City of Hoyt Lakes for the arena and recreation fees.
Equipment Rental
Equipment is available to rent for all age levels. Mites and above pay a rental fee for the equipment. Termites and Pops will have a rental deposit that is returned at the end of the season.
Additional Requirements
In addition to the fees for registration, we have the following requirements to help our program function and continue to keep costs low.
1. Volunteer Fee ($250) (NOTE: Mites and Squirts ONLY)
2. Hockey Hut Fee ($250) (NOTE: Mini-Mites-Squirts)
3. Cash Calendar ($300) (NOTE: Mites and Squirts ONLY)
$300 is due at registration. Tickets are $20 each. As you sell your tickets, you will recover the costs.

Season Overview
All practices are held at the Hoyt Lakes Arena.
Mini-Mites: Practice 1-2 times per week with 2-3 tournaments and a few games.
Mites: Practice 2-3 times per week with 3 tournaments and some games.
Squirts: Practice 3-4 times per week with 3-4 tournaments and 20-30 games.
Home Tournaments
Mini-Mites: January 18-19, 2025
Mites: January 25-26, 2025
Squirts: December 7-8, 2024
*All families are expected to volunteer during their home tournaments.
Volunteer Requirements
MEYHA is made up of volunteers, so it is important that we have all of our families involved in the association so that we can continue to provide youth hockey in our community for our children. In order to keep our costs low for our families, we need to fundraise. The Hockey Hut is one of our main fundraisers each season.
Volunteer Hours
Each family will include $250 with their Registration fee. This fee is paid back to you (via check from the Treasurer) upon completion of 20 volunteer hours. *Pops/Termites are not required to complete volunteer hours, but are expected to help out with the association since you are the future.
Volunteer hours are earned in the following ways:
- Home Games (Announcer, Books, Clock, Penalty Box)
- Tournaments (Running the tourney games with the above jobs, Hockey Hut hours are considered "Volunteer Hours" during tournaments, Raffle table (if running a raffle)
- Board member and Coaching Position approved by ACE Coordinator
- Other opportunities are available, too, as needs arise throughout the season.
-Volunteer checks will be cashed on November 1st. This is a part of registration and required for your child to skate.
-Volunteer hours are tracked via DIBS. Once your 20 hours are completed, you contact the treasurer to let him/her know your hours are done and he/she will cut you a check, reimbursing the $250.

Hockey Hut Shifts
Each family will include $250 with their Registration fee. This fee is either HELD or CASHED, depending on your choice of OPTION 1 or OPTION 2, below:
Option 1: Families are asked to cover 3 shifts, which can be completed during 3 Youth or Junior Gold Games in the Hockey Hut during the Hockey Hut Season (Sept 1st-May 1st). NOTE: Your home tournaments or 4 on 4 games do not count for hockey hut shifts. This is approximately 5-6 hours. (Separate from the 20 Volunteer Hours.) These shifts are tracked in DIBS. Claim your shifts on a first come, first serve basis.
The $250 check is HELD if you choose this option. **If you have not completed the requirement by March 15th the check will be cashed. This is a requirement of registration and your child will not be able to play without completing the shifts or payment. This original check is either returned to you or destroyed upon completion of the 3 shifts. Contact the Treasurer once you have completed your shifts.

Option 2: Families are asked to cover 2 shifts via "buyout".
The $250 check is immediately cashed and your Hockey Hut shifts will be covered by someone else (possibly an individual or group the association may need to hire to cover the requirements of our lease with the City of Hoyt Lakes).
